About Summerstown Mission Early History We are a small friendly Church of ordinary people with real everyday problems who have a life transforming faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The present membership is around thirty, with attendances at the Sunday Services of thirty to forty in the morning and fifteen to eighteen in the evening. Visitors attend nearly every week, and some become quite regular with us. Socially we have a wide mix of people with, for example, single parents, the unemployed, the retired, clerical workers and medical staff. Racially, we have people who originate from, among other places, the Caribbean, India and Africa, as well as the UK. We celebrate our diversity and are grateful to the Lord for the spiritual unity we enjoy in Jesus Christ. Theologically we are Bible based and evangelical, that is, our constant goal is to preach, teach, and live out, the Good News of Jesus as taught in the Bible. Our worship is contemporary, drawing from the heritage of the past and the growing resources of the present. We do not embrace either extreme of divisive separatism or experience centre ministry, but believe in a Bible based balance of the Word and the Spirit, the truth and love. The Church is affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) and subscribes to their statement of faith. We have good links with other bible-based churches in the area and the Pastor meets up with ministers and representatives of FIEC and non-FIEC churches in a regular fraternal. The area surrounding the Church has a high-rise estate; roads of old terraced houses and pockets of new build housing. There is a good mixture of owner-occupied, privately rented, Council and Housing Association dwellings. St George's University Hospital and the Tooting Leisure Centre are within walking distance and the Tooting town centre a little further distant. Please feel free to come along and meet with us; you are assured of a warm welcome. Show all the tiny pics |
